The LEARN Project

In compiling these materials, we have found the two reports from the LEARN Project of immense help, and of great interest.

The LEARN Project has been carried out for QCA by University of Bristol Graduate School of Education; CLIO Centre for Assessment Studies. Published in September 1999, the Project's first report is:

Synopsis, aim and background
Methodology and results
Expectations
Self-assessment
Feedback
Conclusion and recommendations
Appendix 1: Individual questionnaire
Appendix 2: Learning and assessment prompt cards

The report on Phase 2 was published in June 2000:
'Could try harder':   A summary of students' perceptions of assessment in schools.
'Not very good work' doesn't help me know how to do it better:   How students receive and respond to feedback.
'Don't know what would be a good bit of work, really':   'Low achievers' perceptions of assessment.

Our thanks must go to Jan Winter and colleagues, who were happy to give their permission for us to use their materials in their entirety, holding the view that “the wider they are disseminated the better”.
