The main focus of work within the Professional Development Centre is:
- to ensure that teachers and other professionals are equipped to facilitate school improvement by raising standards
- to act for the professional benefit of teachers and other adults, in their quest for life-long learning
- to encourage the exchange of expertise and experience
- to provide opportunities and facilities for teachers and other adult learners to engage in curriculum development, in-service education and other meetings and activities of a professional or social nature
- to provide a variety of resources to extend those available in schools

Low Bank Ground and Hinning House are Metropolitan Wigans Outdoor Education Centres in the Lake District. They offer a wide range of outdoor and environmental courses for schools and youth groups, in-service training for teachers and leaders and activity courses and holidays for the general public. |

Drumcroon, Wigan Education Art Centre offers a complete education service to schools, teachers, students, and all those interested in promoting education through art. |
