The main focus of work within the Professional Development Centre is:

  • to ensure that teachers and other professionals are equipped to facilitate school improvement by raising standards
  • to act for the professional benefit of teachers and other adults, in their quest for life-long learning
  • to encourage the exchange of expertise and experience
  • to provide opportunities and facilities for teachers and other adult learners to engage in curriculum development, in-service education and other meetings and activities of a professional or social nature
  • to provide a variety of resources to extend those available in schools

Learning Through Sport
The Learning Through Sport Curriculum Centre is supported by a unique partnership with Wigan Rugby league Football Club, Robin Park Leisure Services, Tesco, Wigan Local Education Authority, Education Business Partnership, Comino Foundation and Research Machines.
Wigan Council's Lakeland Outdoor Centres
Low Bank Ground and Hinning House are Metropolitan Wigan’s Outdoor Education Centres in the Lake District. They offer a wide range of outdoor and environmental courses for schools and youth groups, in-service training for teachers and leaders and activity courses and holidays for the general public.

Drumcroon, Wigan Education Art Centre offers a complete education service to schools, teachers, students, and all those interested in promoting education through art.
