Pupils who are at school action or school action plus are discussed at the planning meetings and agreement is reached on which pupils will receive support from the Link Teacher. It is expected that pupils will have followed the SEN processes outlined in the Code of Practice

Who do we support?

  • Pupils who have a statement for Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD)
  • Pupils who have received funding for additional literacy support through the LEA School Identification System (SIS)

What support is available?
The funding is used to provide:

  • A full baseline assessment to identify the needs of the individual pupil
  • 1 hr individual specialist tuition per week on an individually designed programme
  • detailed lesson p[reparation and record keeping appropriate materials
  • liaison with, and support for school staff / parents

When should you refer?

  • When you wish to purchase specialist teaching for a pupil who has an SpLD statement.

It is important that consideration is given to this when a statement specifies 'direct teaching by' or 'access to' a teacher who is trained and experienced in teaching pupils with specific learning difficulties.

  • When you wish to purchase support for a pupil who has SIS funding for additional literacy support where it is felt by the school that these difficulties are of a specific nature.

How to refer

  • The Service has two standard referral forms, one for statemented pupils and one for SIS funded pupils. A master copy of each form is sent to schools every financial year.
  • You should send the completed referral form, together with the required pupil information, to the above address

What happens next?

  • When the referral is received by the Service a letter to confirm receipt of the referral will be sent to you and the pupil is placed on a waiting list.
  • The pupil is assigned to a tutor as soon as a place available. Waiting times can vary according to staff availability but you will receive regular updates on the progress of their application
  • Once a pupil is assigned to a tutor they will contact you to arrange tuition. A letter confirming these details will then be sent to you. A Service Level Agreement will be issued and forwarded to school.
