Who do we support?
We support children who have been identified as having a significant visual / hearing loss that could hinder their educational progress, who attend mainstream and special schools.
What support is available?
Support is determined by the child's individual needs and will be made up from the elements listed below: direct teaching of disability specific skills, provision and management of specialist equipment, adaption of curriculum materials, advice to teachers and LSA's, contributions to IEP's and annual reviews, liaison with other professional agencies involved with the child's welfare and education. Support may range from annual to termly monitoring and advice through to regular in-class or school advice.
When should you refer?
Whenever staff or parents have a concern that the child is having problems that may be due to a hearing or visual loss.
How to refer
Write or Fax to the office giving brief details of the concern, the child's details and confirmation that parental consent to seek advice has been obtained. We accept telephone referrals but they need to be followed up in writing.
What happens next?
You will be contacted within 5 working days by a member of the service to arrange an appointment to see the pupil, this visit will be within 6 school weeks and will be followed up by a written report.
